Gaming has been one of the first applications to utilize the potential of VR, and the environment will probably stay in the consumer space for some time before industrial applications start appearing to the spotlight.
But with consumers, VR still has potential to transform many other forms of linear media towards more interactive consumption. Helgason sees VR video as one of the key use cases in the future, and Unity has made recent acquisitions toward that direction.
But whatever application you decide to use the VR for, you should remember that it will be risky as hell. Unity thinks that VR will soon be as big as mobile, and this means that in the near future there will be new products and ideas to reset all the assumptions at least every few months like in the early days of the iPhone.
