Key take-aways

  • Performance art with vacuum-packed bodies
  • Strong focus on movement, coincidence, order and chaos
  • Projects involving physics and technology as a point of departure or inspiration and as a means for activating installations.

Experience the Belgian installations artist Lawrence Malstaf’s incredible performance piece Shrink from 1995.

In Shrink a living body will be vacuum packed and vertically suspended in the halls of Dokk1.

Moving slowly, the body freezes in positions referencing both an embryonic state and a crucified body. The spectacular performance is presented in collaboration with SPOR festival for contemporary music and sound art, taking place in Aarhus 8 – 15 May 2016.

The work of the Belgian artist Lawrence Malstaf is situated on the borderline between the visual and the theatrical. He develops installation and performance art with a strong focus on movement, coincidence, order and chaos, and immersive sensorial rooms for individual visitors. He also creates larger mobile environments dealing with space and orientation, often using the visitor as a co-actor.

His projects involve physics and technology as a point of departure or inspiration and as a means for activating installations.
